Rinteln visitors attend 'town twinning' lunch in Kendal
A group from a town in Germany visited Kendal for a weekend of activities and town twinning discussions.
The delegation, from Rinteln, arrived on Friday, October 17, having travelled overnight by ferry from Europoort to Hull.
They were welcomed by the Mayor of Kendal, Councillor Richard Sutton, the Kendal Association, and its chairman, Andy Blackman.
The visit was arranged to align with a regional twinning lunch organised by the Kendal Association.
Following the reception, the group took a walk along the River Kent to observe the new flood defences. This was particularly significant as Rinteln, situated on the Weser River, endured severe flooding last year.
The evening concluded with a "chippy" tea at Fish Express.
On Saturday, the group attended a German-themed lunch at Carus Green, which attracted more than 60 people. The event saw representatives from various local towns, either already twinned or considering twinning with other German towns, in attendance. Among them were Workington, Bury, Barrow, Millom, Skipton, and Kirkham.
The primary objective of the lunch was to unite different associations sharing the common cause of twinning towns and their residents. The gathering witnessed a substantial exchange of ideas, with a collective aspiration to enhance town twinning.
The weekend's activities continued on Sunday with a group walk to Orrest Head, followed by a visit to the Jetty Museum. The Rinteln group returned home on Monday via an overnight ferry, carrying with them fond memories of friendships either made or strengthened during the visit.
